Good Evening, Terri. I received results today showing negative HSV1, but positive HSV2 (igg 3.24 “above high normal”) with a positive supplemental, and recommended “confirmation testing”. As far as I know I’ve never had any type of outbreak that I can remember or place, specifically genital as I know I’ve never had an oral outbreak or lesion. My husband gets cold sores, but does not seem to get anything around the genital region. He’s never been tested. We have been together 10 years, I feel certain since he has some type of HSV that presents as cold sores, it is unlikely I have nothing. I genuinely did not expect the results I received though, considering. I am not certain it helps any but I am female the husband is male.
1. What is the likelihood my hsv2 result is a false negative at the range it’s at with the positive supplemental considering I doubt any infection is recent?
2. Is it possible to have hsv2 that only presents orally?
I think there is a real chance that this is a false positive and you should do the western blot
Why did you do the herpes antibody test again?
HSV 2 is very rarely oral – are you having something that looks like cold sores? if yes, you should have these swab tested.
Terri
