Hello I recently tested positive for hsv2. I have only had 2 partners in my life. One was years ago and last was 5 years ago and it was for a couple of months (about 4 to 5 months). We did use protection on and off. I recently went in for a check up with my docter becuse its been awhile since i did a yearly examine and he suggested doing std panel and it included hsv 1 and hsv 2. I have done std panels in the past and they came back negative, but not any herpes test before. To my knowledge I haven’t had any symptoms and it came back as 1.65 for igg hsv2 from quest. He told me not to worry about over 50% of Americans have it but he never suggested to do conformity test. My partner at the time she also had std panel back then that didn’t include hsv1 or 2 but came back negative across the board.
1. Do you think that this is a false positive.
2. Would another test or blot test be best for me.
3. Should I worry?
It is not true that 50% of the population has HSV 2 – that is true for HSV 1.
At 1.65, there is an excellent chance that this is a false positive, yes – probably 75%.
The CDC says not to include HSV testing in an sTD panel so that was an error also.
If you were my patient I would recommend the western blot for you, definitely

I recently just did an inhibition test and got 1.72. Do you think I should still do the blot test.
Yup. But the inhibition assay gives a percentage and result – positive or negative, not just a number. What did you get?
