› Forums › Herpes Questions › Positive IGG HSV2, is there hope?
Hi Terri,
The last time I had unprotected sex was in October 2022. I may have suffered a genital herpes outbreak in December 2022. (I thought I had the flu and had cut myself shaving, but later realized the possibility of herpes. Last sex partner assured me he was clean, yadda yadda.) The December possible outbreak would be my only time showing symptoms, unless HSV2 manifests on the face (I get facial cold sores on occasion and have tested positive for HSV1 since like 15 years ago.)
I have taken two IGG tests and these are the results and dates of test:
2/8/2023: Positive HSV2, 10.60
3/2/2023: Positive HSV2, 11.20
The test was the Herpeselect HSV2 IgG, administered by the same lab both times.
How much hope is there of a negative WB result with these numbers?
The fact that you’ve had symptoms that you think might be herpes combined with a relatively high HSV-2 index value suggests to me that you are likely infected with HSV two. I have seen false positives at this index value and higher, and if you want additional confirmation, we can set up the Western blot antibody test for you done at the University of Washington. If you do have HSV to infection genitally, he will likely have a recurrence at some point. If that happens, I would strongly suggest that you have it swab tested as soon as it shows up. This may happen before you do a western blot. But you can do the western blood at any point if you choose to do so.
Terri
