I had met with you a couple days ago anxious to hear your response so I’m reaching out here. As we discussed I feared that I was exposed to HSV2 in a one time encounter of intercourse using a condom. I tested with Quest 15 days after the encounter my igm came back as negative with them saying that I couldn’t have been recently exposed and this had to be an exposure at least a few months old which doesn’t make sense to me. But my IGG for HSV 2 came back at 1.26 and HSV1 was 1.60 you told me my odds of acquiring HSV2 were extremely low in a one time encounter should I continue to stress out for the months to come or just move on from this situation? I have no symptoms.

If your HSV 2 test is positive, you could be infected. Did we decide to do the blot? The odds are probably 90% that this is a false positive result BUT I have seen true positives at this level in the past.

I took another blood test a little more then 3 weeks later results slightly lower HSV 1 1.37 from 1.6 and HSV 2 1.26 to 1.24 should I just assume false positive at this point? If I was truly positive since after 15 days I was positive at 1.26 why would my body just stop making antibodies? Everyone tells me the numbers and from what I’ve seen from others retests that those numbers should shoot up pretty noticeably with a new infection

Oh and another thing when the lab called me they said that quests igg test wouldn’t come back positive 15 days after exposure it was too early is this true? That would be the only instance in my life I could have been exposed.

It is possible for someone to be truly positive 15 days after acquiring HSV 2, absolutely. But I do think the odds are that this is a false positive.

And numbers would typically shoot up during a new infection right?

It is possible to have a low positive 2 weesk after infection. By 3 weeks after infection, 50% of people who are going to be positive will be positive, so absolutely, someone could have a low positive index value 2 weeks after infection.
Most often, numbers will increase after a new infection, correct.
You can consider this a false positive if you wish. I’m afraid I can’t give you a 100% certainty here.Terri

Yeah so I got so anxious waiting for the 12 weeks I just went and took the supplemental inhibition test and in the process another igg was run and it came back negative so the whole test wasn’t run. This was at 8 weeks. My question is with the two low iggs followed by a negative do you think it’s fine to just move on with my life? I’m reaching my breaking point.

yes, I think it is fine to move on without further testing.

How do I go about getting a blot? I was just going to move on but have noticed a couple bumps one turning into what looked like a sore. This could easily be nothing but without the 100% certainty from getting the blot done I’ll just assume every blemish is herpes so I’ll just go ahead and take the test I’m well past 12 weeks now.

You can work with your own provider and the University of Washington to get this or you can work with me by setting up an appointment with me on this website.
