Hello,
Back in 2019 I tested positive for hsv1 (14.70 IGG) and hsv2 (1.71 IGG). I retested again this week and got a negative result for HSV2. I had taken acyclovir 800mg 6 days before receiving this negative test.
Should I take this negative test and run with it as Negative? Seeing how my IGG was low the first time.
Western blot is very expensive for me right now.
I am asymptomatic for HSV2.
This combination of tests suggest that you don’t have HSV 2. How long did you take the acyclovir? And why were you taking it?
Terri
Hi Terri thanks for responding,
6 days prior to my test I took one pill (800mg). The reason I took it was because I had a sexual encounter, she was aware of my status of Hsv2, explained that I never had Symptoms and low positive (protected sex).
Based on what I had mentioned still safe to assume I am negative?
Additionally, prior to that 800mg day. 3 days before that I took acyclovir for 4 days (400mg) to prevent an outbreak for HSv1 that I’m prone to get once a year. I didn’t want to have a cold sore on my lips before the wedding.
I’ve had a 1.71 positive test since 2019 and this is the first time I retest since then. Shouldn’t the antibodies have gone up since then as well?
My main concern is what you make of this Terri, hopefully you can give me a peace of mind.
Hi Terri,
Any updates to my follow up question? Thank you
When you keep posting more as you have, it makes me think this is a newer post not an older one.
Taking antivirals for that short a time that long after a low positive, would not impact a new test. I still suspect that you are not infected with HSV, given your negative now.
