      Hi Terri,

I believe I was recently exposed to hsv2. On October 30 I had protected sex with someone from my past. The next day I experienced irritation ( no itching) in my vulva area. I felt this same irritation a few years ago after using Trojan condoms so I’ve always assumed I was allergic to latex.

The irritation lasted for about 3 weeks. I checked for bumps and lesions and didn’t see anything or feel any pain at all. The only other symptom was watery discharge.

I went to urgent care and they “physically checked” for hsv2 and didn’t see any lesions on the outside or inside. Gave me meds for a yeast infection and sent me on my way. My yeast and bv tests ended up being negative.

5 weeks later I now have back pain, pain in my thighs ( pins and needles) and the worst anxiety.

The person I was with claims he was tested for all stds/Stis but refuses to send proof. Which makes me assume the worst. All of these symptoms happened after my encounter with him.

      Question:
Do any of these symptoms sound like hsv2 to you?

Could I possibly be experiencing prodrome symptoms even though I’ve never had an outbreak?

Do you think this could’ve just been a reaction to the latex that led to something else?

I’m so confused at this point. Of course my doctor doesn’t recommend a test because I don’t have typical symptoms.

      Please help. Thank you.

They do not and condoms reduce transmission of HSV 2 from males to females by 96% so the condom was likely protective here

      I seriously doubt that

I do think it could be that or something else but probably not herpes

If you remain worried, you could do the western blot and avoid the possibility of a false positive on the IgG test completely. It’s really your call on this and no one else’s including your doctor.
