Hi Terri,
I’m reaching out regarding my results. I am wracked with anxiety due to this. I went for routine screening and noticed that now my HSV-1 IgG has increased a bit and HSV-2 IgG is now showing for what I read online as a “low positive”. My HSV-1 went from 38.60 to 54.80 and my HSV-2 result was previously negative, now it is 1.21. No symptoms were noticed, no outbreaks at all. My last sexual activity was protected and approximately 4 weeks ago. My last test was about 10 months ago. Is there a chance that this could be a false-positive? I have been under a lot of stress recently, and had a bout of GI illness. Could these factors affect the results? -

Hi Terri,
I just have another update. I will be having an HSV-2 confirmation done today through Quest. My previous tests were all from Labcorp. I’ve read on the forum that Labcorp does no longer have their confirmation test. I’m hoping for the best from this test as I’m not sure how feasible it would be for me to have the Western Blot done yet due to personal situations. Do you think there could have been some cross reactivity with my HSV-1 result? I will most likely be testing again in a few weeks, but do you think it was also too early to test at 4 weeks? I hope you will be able to get back to me soon, this is the worst I’ve felt mentally about this situation. -

I definitely think there could be cross reactivity with your high HSV 1. When was your last sexual contact?

Hi Terri,
My last contact was about 4 weeks ago now. Used protection during every moment. If there was cross reactivity.. would the IA confirmation from Quest clarify that or would it also reflect in the results and possibly have another false positive? -

I can’t tell your gender – male or female?

I am so sorry I forgot to mention it. I am a male. What are the chances it could be a false positive in your opinion? I am currently waiting for the IA results.

Hey Terri,
I just got my inhibition assay results back from Quest and they were negative (<0.90). So much relief.. I remember reading your statement that a negative on the IA is usually in good agreement with the Western Blot, and I think I may just get it done as well at the 12 week mark just to be 110% sure. I just wanted to thank you for your time and the amazing help you provide to all of us. Thank you for all that you do. -

Yes, there is good agreement between NEGATIVE inhibition assays and western blot – not near as good with positive IA and western blot. So that’s great that it is negative so far – I thought it would be.
And you are most welcome
Terri
