› Forums › Herpes Questions › Possible False Positive
Hello,
Last November 2021, I discovered that my ex had been unfaithful multiple times with multiple women. Shortly after, I noticed lesions on the inner part of my labia majora. They were flat and painful but witch hazel seemed to help. I went to the doctor and he said that it looked like a rash from my razor and not herpes and did not swap the sores or take blood for blood work. The sores faded within a week and I haven’t had them since. This type of outbreak has happened at least once before in similar location with similar symptoms during our relationship. Flat, open sores that fade quickly. No bumps or blisters. I’ve had bv and yeast infections in the past so I assumed it was either a complication from that or a razor rash. However, I just got back results today saying that I tested positive for HSV-1 and HSV-2. Here are the numbers:
Hsv1 IgG – 18.10
Hsv2 IgG – 1.68
Hsv2 IgG Supplemental test:
current result: positive
flag: abnormal
reference int: negative
This test was done through Labcorp. Do you think it could be a false positive?
Another note, I did have a breakout on my nose which was strange a year or two ago. It looked like cold sore blisters but on the underside of my nose. Have never had a cold sore before that and after. Any help/ advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
it is very common for the cold sore virus to present in and around the nose. You have a high HSV 1 index value so this fits with your clinical presentation.
Your HSV 2 index value is a low positive and most assuredly needs confirmation by western blot
The sores sound a bit concerning but no fully consistent with a classic herpes presentation.
