› Forums › Herpes Questions › Possible False Positive Test – What are my next steps?
Hi Terri
I recently went for my routine physical exam and asked for an STI screening, i’ve been with my current partner since 2019 and we’ve both been exclusive. We recently talked about the possibility of including other people in our sex life so I decided it was a good time to just check in and make sure I was good to go. My partner was last tested in 2021 and since we have been exclusive, he did not go for a retest.
I have never had cold sores in my life, and never any sores down below. Neither has my partner.
However, to my surprise I tested “positive” for HSV1 and HSV2 (LGG) on my panel. Returning index values of 4.14 for HSV1 and 2.87 for HSV2.
My partner was tested for HSV in 2021 and his results were negative however he was given an LGM test.
My doctors claim the LGG test is the “most accurate” and really didn’t want to tell me there was any possibility of a false positive result. From what i’ve read my HSV2 result is a low positive.
My question is— what should my next steps be: Should my partner obtain an LGG test? Should I retest somewhere else? Should I obtain a WB?
Thanks in advance.
Bumping this thread, also correcting myself *IGG*
I think you definitely need a western blot as your HSV 2 is in the low positive range and could be a false positive. No question about it – you need the better test. And based on what you get, your partner might need a better test as well.
