So, about 3 weeks ago, I had protected sex with a woman that I really shouldn’t have slept with. I regretted it being my first one night stand immediately. Later that night, I was waking up often, having to urinate, and often it didn’t seem like much would come out. I immediately starting to get nervous that I had contracted an STD. A few days later, I went to see a doctor who took my urine sample to test it for a UTI, gonorrhea and chlamydia, results came back negative after the weekend. Later that day (1.5 weeks after encounter), I started feeling symptoms of what I felt was herpes. My back was really hot (mostly the middle/top of my back). I also started to see some pimples on my thighs, no clusters, just here and there. None of them hurt any different than previous pimples I’ve had over the years, and when I popped one, the pain would pretty much subside and it would heal up. At this point, I was freaking out so I went back to the doctor and he took a look and said it looked like folliculitis, rather than herpes, but he took some blood to test for all STDs; this was about 9 or 10 days after exposure. Tests came back, and everything was negative, he did an IgM (0.33 result) for herpes as he said since the exposure was recent, this would be the most appropriate test, but I’m aware that this is not a useful test (sadly). I was prescribed a drug for my folliculitis, however, I have a certain allergy (SJS) and can’t take everything, so I was waiting to hear back on whether or not the prescription would be ok. In the meantime, my symptoms have migrated. My back, though still hot at times is less irritated, I can also feel a sharp prick, like when a hair growing makes contact with clothing at times. My lower neck also seems to be slightly irritated, I randomly feel things in my armpits, arms, shins, etc. I’ve had no lesions or pimples on my genitals, however, my glans is irritated after masturbating, turns patchy red, but subsides after stopping; I’ve stopped doing that since my sex drive is really low right now. Last night, my (front) thighs were really tingling, so much so that I didn’t sleep very well, but I don’t think I’ve noticed any new pimples breaking out. I do see what looks like a lot of little ingrown hairs at the front of my thighs, leading down to my knees, they don’t look different than any of my usual ingrown hairs, it just looks like more, I think. Today (~3 wks since possible exposure), my butt started tingling the most it has been during this whole ordeal, but it didn’t last too long, I can’t really tell if I have anything broken out there, but if I do, it’s a couple of pimples. Mind you, I’m a hairy individual, I have hair all over my body, including my back (which I shaved before the encounter) and my buttocks. I haven’t taken any medication as of yet for either of my ailments, but it’s frustrating me and I won’t be able to see a planned parenthood clinician until Monday; the stress and anxiety is really driving me insane.

None of this sounds anything like herpes to me. None. You are perhaps freaking out just a bit over the contact but the symptoms that you describe are not consistent with a genital herpes infection. It sounds like you do have a mild case of folliculitis, something you likely have had before but now takes on new meaning. In my opinion, nothing you’ve described here sounds like herpes Have you been tested for herpes in the past to know that you don’t have this already?

I am a paranoid individual and do consider myself a hypochondriac in some ways, so you are quite likely correct. I have been tested before and had a clean bill of health the last time I was tested. Hadn’t been with anyone new since this last test until this encounter as I got out of a monogamous relationship, which is why I had this stupid encounter, I was in a bad place. I did notice a lot of bumps on my scrotum last night as I was washing up down there which freaked me out. I have been irritated down there a bit and these bumps could explain things. I have a few photos of the pimples, bumps, etc, would it be alright to post these? Thanks Terri.

Yes, you can post the pictures. And are you certain that your STD testing included herpes testing?

Hi Terri, not 100% sure, but what I am sure of is my sex life prior to this encounter. I’m not you’re average individual, I’ve had very, very few partners in my life and that was by choice. I’m absolutely confident that I was (hopefully still am) clean of any STDs. I can try calling my family doctor back home to ask for my record as I moved across the continent earlier this year and didn’t bring my medical records with me.
I’ll post the photos shortly, just need to get to my pc. Thanks.

Just be certain that herpes testing was included in your STI screen – sometimes it is not.

Can you advise if you will comment on the pictures please? I didn’t think the above responses counted as questions from me to be honest.
Thanks.

Subscribed and added another photo.
Also have a slightly sore lower back I would say, very minor, but it seems to be there when I bend back a little. -

These pictures look like folliculitis to me but to be sure, an in clinic visit would be more definitive.

Ya have an appointment on Monday. Would that be too late to get things checked out? I couldn’t get an earlier appointment.
Also, I was planning on doing a full checkup in terms of blood work around 15 weeks after the potential exposure, would that be a good time? Thanks Terri. -

No, Monday would be fine. I am not at all alarmed by what I see in the pics. 16 weeks is what I suggest for the final blood draw.

Thanks for the info Terri. Guess we’ll see what happens on Monday. Hopefully the visual inspection can be conclusive enough to calm my fear.
