I (male) had unprotected vaginal sex with a woman on 11/7. She had said she was tested prior to our hookup but found out she had only been tested for gon/cla in which she tested negative for both. I can recall having trouble urinating 1-2 times that week after our hookup but don’t recall any lesions/blisters. The following week I became sick (headache, body ache, tired). Fast forward to 12/7 and I start to notice significant redness of my scrotum, redness around my anus (that is also itchy at times) and some pain with urinating. I became concerned so I got an IGG antibody test through STDcheck on 12/8 (5 weeks post exposure/32 days post exposure) which was negative. I scheduled an appointment with my dr on 12/18 in which he said based on your negative test plus nothing that I see visually it’s not herpes and he prescribed me keflex. I also tested negative for cla/gon that visit based off urine testing. The following week I developed back pain/buttock pain out of the blue that lasted 7 days and wasn’t sure if that was “prodome” symptoms. At this point my anxiety was at an all time high and still kind of is. I haven’t slept well, eaten food and drank water normally like I did prior to 12/7. The redness of scrotum, redness around my anus (and itchiness) and discomfort of my penis was still present. I went back to my Dr office on 1/4 where he reassured me again that it wasn’t herpes based off what he saw then prescribed me Fluconazole. I’ve only been on it one day so far but it hasn’t seem to change much but he said it could take up to 3 days for it to work. I still have the redness today of both areas as well as some discomfort with urinating today. My question is what do you think could be possibly going on and what should my next steps be. Thank you I appreciate the help.
What you describe sounds absolutely nothing like herpes to me, but it does sound fungal, from your description. I would suggest continuing the Fluconazole and see how you do. You might also consider adding some topical antifungal medicine, like Lortimin, applied to the red areas.
