7 months ago I went to a massage parlor and received a hand job only. I did digital penetration to her and had vaginal fluid and blood on my fingers. I then touched the base of my penis shaft. 5 days later, I had 2 small ingrown hair/pimple looking sores develop at the spot where I touched my penis. No blisters and no fluid in them. No pain and very, very mildly itching. Barely noticeable. No other symptoms at all. I went to urgent care and they said it’s probably genital herpes. He did a swab test which ended up coming back negative. The 2 sores were dry so not sure how accurate the test was. He put me on anti-virals after he did a swab. I went to an std clinic and they said it doesn’t resemble herpes. I went to my PCP and a dermatologist. Both said it doesn’t resemble herpes. Dermatologist said probably folliculitis. The sores turned into a scab after about a week. The dermatologist saw the sores before and after they scabbed. The scabs lasted prob 2-3 weeks. It took about a month for the sores to disappear from start to finish. No scarring after they healed. The sores never looked like the traditional pictures of herpes. They didn’t look like HPV warts either although it would’ve been too soon for that. The dermatologist did a stain test which came back negative for hsv. She cut a piece of the sore off and sent it to the lab. I was on anti-viral meds when she did the stain test. Maybe that affected the result of the stain test. I’m not sure how that works. I did the 10 panel std check (www.stdcheck.com) which includes hsv1 and 2. I did it at 3,4 and 6 months. They use the herpeselect igg test. All tests were negative for hsv 1 and 2. They didn’t give me my index value. Just a ‘negative’ result. I’m having a hard time believing it’s folliculitis unless the vaginal fluid/blood can cause an infection that causes folliculitis. Maybe the blood/vaginal fluids caused some other infection that would explain the sores.
Do you think I can trust my negative hsv2 test results and move on with my life?
What do you think caused my sores? -

Forgot to mention that when the dermatologist sent a sample to the lab, it wasn’t a scab yet. It sill looked like a pimple/ingrown hair.

I definitely think you can trust your negative HSV2 test result. We don’t believe that hands are a good method of transmission from one person to another. Much virus is lost in that process. Your negative IgG test results your negative biopsy and the opinion of many who saw you that this was not herpes should be able to convince you that this isn’t what happened Dash you didn’t get herpes from this encounter. I don’t know what might’ve caused those sores

Thanks, Terri. Could being on anti-virals at the time of the biopsy (not the swab test) affect the results ?
