Terri – I am hsv2 positive and recently had an encounter with a man in which he fondled my vagina and then put his fingers in his mouth. I am on suppressive therapy of 1g per day. Would you say this was pretty low risk of transmission? Thank you.
I would say it is absolutely low risk!! HSV 2 doesn’t like the mouth and the likelihood of you shedding enough virus to be picked up by his fingers (#1) and lived in adequate numbers to infect his mouth (#2) is slim to none. I think you have little if nothing to worry about here.

Thank you. To follow up, he is not aware of my status. In your opinion, is it still enough of a risk that I should tell him? Have you ever seen documented transmission such as this? And lastly, if he masturbated with that hand (which I know was dry 20 mins or so later when he left) that also is extremely low risk?
I do not think you need to disclose our herpes status to him if your sexual contact goes no further, no . But I”m running this question by one of my colleagues to see if we agree. Masturbating later with that hand would not pose a risk 20 minutes later.

Hi Terri. Just wanted to circle back to see if you were able to discuss with your colleague? Thanks.
We are in agreement about this. I don’t think you need to tell him
