Hi Ms. Warren,
Another worry on my end with new partner. Here is a timeline:
Friday, 8/27 – We involved in just kissing
Saturday AM, 8/28 – He gave me brief unprotected for about two minutes and I gave him unprotected oral until finish that lasted just a couple minutes. Kissed him one last time that night and noticed what looked like a pimple starting above his lip. Didn’t noticed too much because of mustache.
Sunday mid-morning 8/29 – Started getting a sore throat.
Monday, 8/30 – Sore throat got worse so I did a telehealth appt and got amoxicillin just in case bacterial (can’t get into urgent care quickly with covid going on). There was puss on my tonsils. No fever or any other symptoms.
Wednesday, 8/31 – Sore throat pretty much gone.
Thursday, 9/1 – Saw partner again and that pimple now looked like a cold sore and also right under his nose.
I have always tested negative for both HSV I and II.
Besides the sore throat, I haven’t had any other symptoms so far (except a canker sore I get regularly that has almost gone away under tongue), but am now concerned that I have gotten HSV from him (I have just kissed him times before but this event is what is concerning me). Is this a possibility or just a coincidence that I got a sore throat up to two days later?

I have to add that the sore throat did include swollen lymph node on one side (as the sore throat was mainly on right side and slowly started moving with pus to the other side right before I started the antibiotics.

I think herpes is unlikely because of the timing here. usually, herpes would show up 2-10 days after infection. And a sore throat caused by new herpes would not resolve that quickly. I would say if this happens again, you could have it swab tested for HSV if you are still concerned. But I think it is an unlikely cause of your sore throat, honestly

Thank you for your reply. With no sores in the genital area or any other symptoms over two weeks out now (canker sores I’ve had my entire life), and the short sore throat…Should I discontinue my worries?

I think you can discontinue your worry about this encounter. I can’t tell you that you don’t have herpes because I know nothing else about your sexual history.
