I have always had hsv1 and get Coldsores on my lips and nose frequentl
I started having unprotected sex with a guy beginning of October 2021 and we discussed my hsv1 status and I went and got tested for stds and hsv end of october
and as expected hsv1 positive and hsv2 negative
fast forward my and my partner broke up in May and I started having un protected sex with another partner in July
the first time we had sex I felt fine and the following week we had unprotected sex again and I experience a horrible yeast infection and took medication for it and I was fine after
but I still decided to get another std test which was 3 weeks after the first initial encounter I had sex with the new partner and I also had an active coldsore outbreak on my lip when I did the test
this new test came back the first week of August and it came back positive for hsv1 and 2 with no index
I never had a hsv2 symptom and still don’t can the test be wrong and can the Igg test detect hsv2 within 4 weeks of infection because now I’m worried I don’t know who I got it from Or maybe it tested pOtive for hsv2 because I had a coldsore and how come I had symptoms for a yeast infection and not hsv2
Given that there is no index value for your positive HSV 2 result, I’m afraid I can’t weigh in on how likely this is to be a false or true positive result. The IgG test can detect infection within 4 weeks of infection, yes. The test would be unlikely to be positive due to you having a cold sore but sometimes there can be cross-reactivity between HSV 1 and 2 on the test. I would suggest that you get a reliable test from LabCorp or Quest that gives an index value or do the western blot for the most accurate test. If the Quest or LabCorp value is between 1.1 and 3.5, you’ll need the western blot for confirmation.
