Last year, 2021, I received a positive herpes type 1 test with my index level being at 2.04. This year, 2022, I completed another STD test and expected to be positive for herpes type 1 (considering that one will be stuck with the virus for life regardless of whether it is type 1 or type 2); however, this was not the case. When I received my most recent result (Today 6/9/2022) I tested NEGATIVE for herpes type 1 at an index value of <.09. I also tested positive for herpes type 2 at an index level of 1.52. Both of these tests for both events where I was tested were IgG blood tests. I received my tests from Quest Diagnostics on both occasions. I wanted to know if there is a particular reason why I tested positive for HSV1 approximately a year ago, and now there’s no index value available at all? I also wanted to know if my positive HSV 2 index level could be a result of cross-reactivity between the HSV1 and HSV2 in my body?
Lastly, I wanted to know the probability/ your opinion on whether or not this is most likely a false positive result?
I have only had 4 sexual partners in total and I have only had one sexual partner/encounter, as of late, that took place in mid-February 2022. I have not had oral, anal, or vaginal sex since that time. In the times I have gotten tested I have only tested positive for one sti and that is herpes simplex. At both times I have been tested the results given were both in the false positive range, once in 2021 for herpes simplex type 1 (index value of 2.04) and once in 2022 for herpes simplex type 2 (index value of 1.52). I have never tested positive for both strains of the virus at once, and I am confused as to why I did not test positive for herpes type 1 if I “supposedly” tested positive for it last year.
I am not sure how to interpret this Ms. Warren please help
I believe that I answered this same question in another post.
Based on the index values that you’ve received here, which are kind of all over the place, I can’t tell you if you are infected or not. I recommend the herpes western blot for greater clarity.
