Two weeks ago, under the influence, I had a girl perform unprotected oral on me. She’s had HSV 2 for 10 years and has never had oral lesions. She was upfront and told me that I had no risk by her performing unprotected oral sex on me. Since then, I’ve been freaking out. I went and got an IGG test 2 weeks after exposure and it came back negative. Everything that I’ve read says that 2 weeks is too soon (for the most part) and that I need to test after 6 weeks. I’ve also read that it’s nearly impossible to to get HSV 2 in my situation. I don’t have any bumps/lesions, however it’s been buring around my anus (not sure if it’s due to spicy food/farting). Some other symptoms that I’ve noticed are as follows:
1) slight burning feeling by my knees (might have something to do with my new body wash but I am scared it’s a herpes symptom)
2) slight pain on the back of my left thigh….in between my buttocks and kneeI posted my concerns on the medhelp.org and a gentlemen by the name of HowardH said this interaction carried virtually no risk and that experts would have advised me against testing….is this true? Should i get tested again, or am I safe?
Also since then I’ve had unprotected sex with someone (one time) who doesn’t have any STDs….is there a chance that I could have infected her?
Should I be worried? Is my mind playing games with me?
Thank you for all of your help.

I would definitely agree with Howard H. This encounter presents no risk. HSV 2 is a genital infection, rarely an oral one and if someone has it orally, it very very rarely recurs. I would also have advised you not to test, but you did and that lets you know that you weren’t infected before (80% of those infected don’t know it).
The symptoms that you are describing are likely triggered by your worries rather than any actual disease to be concerned about. It is amazing what our minds can do to us. I remember when my dearest friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer; i had such belly pain for months I ended up with an MRI of the belly – totally normal. And my belly pain went away. If you let your self believe the medical facts here, your symptoms will go away too.
Please let yourself believe that this event poses no risk to you. Start living your life again as fully as possible.

Do you think I should get tested again? Also, is it possible to have HSV 1 with no symptoms…asking becuase the girl say she’s never had oral lesions.
Are sore throat and ear aches/tingling symptoms of HSV1?

It is possible to have HSV 1 without symptoms, but if you were truly negative for both HSV 1 and HSV 2 by antibody, I think you would be var more likely to have symptoms if you acquired HSV 1 genitally.
A sore throat and ear aches/tingling are not signs of HSV 1 genitally. I really don’t think you need testing again, no.

One last question…thanks again for all of your help. Again my mind is playing games with me…could it possible that the girl that gave me oral had HSV 1 but never knew and I got oral HSV 1 (we did kiss but she’s never had an oral outbreak and claims that she only has hsv 2)? Are sore throat and ear aches/tingling symptoms of oral HSV1?
I am just thinking about all what if scenarios….I apologize but I am going crazy!

No, I don’t think that is likely to have occurred without any symptoms at all. Do you worry about contracting HSV1 through kissing with all partners?
Sore throat and ear aches with no oral lesions are extremely unlikely to be symptoms of herpes, by themselves.Terri

I’m sorry, you have exhausted your initial question and two follow up questions. If you wish to ask more questions, please renew for either two or three more questions.

So a negative at 9 weeks is certainly hopeful, yes! However, it is probably only about 80% accurate at this time. Which means that with about 80% certainty, your results will remain negative. But that’s a really good thing, right? You’ve only got 7 weeks to go to be able to count fully on these results. So far, so good, right?

so if you scroll up and read my initial question…you told me not to get tested a second time….do i need to get tested again, or based on my “exposure,” it’s not even worth it?

I’m going on the premise that you are going to continue to get tested until you feel like you are certain about there results. No, I don’t think that you need testing again for HSV 2. But if you are going to, then 16 weeks is the time. Sometimes, no matter how often we reassure people, they want that testing anyway. How are you feeling about HSV 1? We are really not out of the woods for HSV 1, only HSV 2 for which your encounter presented no risk.
I really do think if you acquired HSV 1 genitally, you would likely have symptoms but since that is your only possible risk here, we are not out of the woods for HSV 1 until 16 weeks.

Well, I guess if you know that for certain, then you should move on with your life, yes.
