Hello, on Tuesday August 30th I developed what I think/thought was a pimple on my lower right side lip. I popped it the next day with a needle and didn’t think much of it. On Thursday September 1st I had unprotected oral on a stranger. Two days later while the pimple was healing it became worse (developed a pretty bad scab and it took a while to heal) it didn’t really look like a cold sore and I haven’t had a cold sore in 18 years. I knew I had Hsv 1 since I was a child. Being paranoid I might have contracted HSV 2 from the stranger I got tested for hsv2 on Wednesday September 21. It was an IgG test. I recieved my results two days later.
The results were HSV 2 IgG type spec 1.25
HSV-2 igG supplemental Test
Current result: positive
Flag: abnormal
Reference int: negative
A nurse called me and explained that I must have been infected before my encounter because they did a test to look in the past. But I had zero symptoms before 3 weeks ago. (Pimple on lip)
Could this possibly be a false positive given my circumstances?
Forgot to mention I’m male and the lab test was with labcorp.
Hello Terri, I have an update; I decided to re-test a week after my last test, and a few days under 4 weeks of potential exposure with labcorp again.
results were.
HSV-IgG type spec: 1.17
with a positive supplemental.
Don’t believe it. We’ve had over 90 people test positive on the LabCorp IgG and positive on the supplemental but negative on the western blot. If possible, you should definitely do the blot.
Terri
Okay, I will definitely order the blot when i can afford it. I’ve just recently done another hsv2 test (it was free) with lab corp now at 6 weeks. I should receive results in a few days. I will update with the results and then proceed with the blot when i can!
Thank you so much Terri!
You are most welcome
Terri
