Hi Terri,
I get a recurrent tingling sensation in my legs that resembles prodrome but is slightly less intense.
Sometimes it only lasts a few days and sometimes a few weeks.
Every time I get it, I take 500-1000mg of Valtrex and it doesn’t seem to have any effect on the symptoms or the duration of them.
I also have not had an OB in years now at this point – so would it be normal to get “prodromes” very regularly without any OBs?
And should the prodrome respond to the Valtrex by subsiding or is it not very effective?
Just wanting to rule out prodrome before I consider going to a dermatologist to get it checked since there’s no visible rash or symptoms.
Thanks so much for your work here as always. It is appreciated more than you know.
Wait – you have been diagnosed with herpes or not?
If not, then this sounds nothing like herpes to me. Sometimes your symptoms last for weeks, which herpes doesn’t and Valtrex makes no difference. If you have been diagnosed with HSV, I’m a bit surprised.

Yes diagnosed by strong IGG in 2019. But have only ever had 2-3 OBs – last one almost 2 years ago now.
Strange because it doesn’t feel as strong as my prodromes typically did. Feels like a different sensation.
It also doesn’t feel the same – comes and goes – can last over a week or two – never followed by OB – and doesn’t subside with valtrex.
Without swab testing to know for certain if these episodes represent viral shedding or not, I would say it really doesn’t sound like herpes to me as they last a week or two and are not impacted by medication.
