Hi Terri, this is my second question. I went back to my doctor and showed him your emails in regards to cross contamination due to my high positive number for HSV-1. I asked if I can be tested with the western blot. Today I called and the nurse told me I can pick up the lab paperwork. So I asked her if it was requesting the Western Blot. She said she didn’t know but that she requested what the doctor told her too which was HSV 1 & 2 PCR through Quest Laboratory, The code is 34257. If this is not the Western Blot, Would this test give accurate results? Again, I was positive for HSV1 IgG type Specific 51.10 and HSV-2 4.21 through LabCorp.
This is definitely not the western blot and you should not take it. The PCR test is looking for virus, not antibody and almost no one has herpes virus in their blood stream outside of a first infection. You cannot order the western blot through your doctor’s office. You can send to the University of Washington for a kit to be shipped to you and your doctor’s office would draw the blood or our clinic can order it for you. Right now, those are the two possibilities.
Terri
