Hi Terri -Thanks for your help so far. To sum up my encounter I had a massage where the lady may have kissed my butt, and possibly but not sure if she did touch her vagina then touched my penis. I had been getting tingling sensations in my buttocks and legs. This tingling has been constant for 2 months now. A few bumps showed up . Had two tested (different occasions about 3 weeks from each other). One viral culture one DNA test. Both negative. I did get a mri on my back and orthopedic said there was a very minor disc issue but nothing major, but could be causing the tingling sensation.

      1. I had 3 blood tests for hsv all negative. The latest was 13.75 weeks from this incident and the results were hsv 1-.04 and hsv 2-.12. I am going with the fact that I should rule these as conclusive?

      2. The only other incident I can think of. And may be crazy for even thinking about this. 5-6 days before I started to get these sensations in my buttocks I went to the std clinic for the doctor to check my penis as I thought it looked red. It was fine, and the doc said it was just irritated and did go away shortly after. But I was thinking that maybe the surface of the exam table I was sitting on previously may have had someone with the hsv virus on there. There was a linen cloth like thing covering the table which I have a feeling that the doctor didn’t replace from the last patient as I saw that patient come out then I went right in after. I probably got onto the table about 5 minutes from when I entered the room butt down on the table. Is this at all a risk even if we assume that there was someone previously on this table and the cloth haven’t been replaced?
My blood test would have been 8 weeks from this date. I only think about this as I see in your other posts that normally if someone notices symptoms it comes 4-5 days (or something similar from this encounter
      3. From what I have read if you are negative for hsv1 /2 it will be quicker seroconversion is that correct. Thanks!

Both of these are significantly low index values. I seriously doubt that this would change over time.

This is not a risk for acquiring herpes

      That is correct, yes

Thanks Terri. Couple of follow ups.

      1. If I did decide to retest, out of curiously are there any stats of false positives if you keep “re testing?” Also you would not suggest I even retest, correct?

      2. So there is 0% risk for the exposure mentioned in number 2 above? As it just seemed like the perfect storm from date of exposure to symptoms.

      3. For my own knowledge to acquire hsv1 orally would this require a deep kiss or would just pecks on the lips be able to transmit?

      4. I now have been getting tingling in my nose, on the right tip and I start googling and see that you can get herpes in your nose. I have no signs of any blisters Etc. but also read that this can be caused by stress which I’m going to chalk it up to, any thoughts here?

      5. I was told that I had CMV as a baby and have read that is in the herpes family. Any concern here as I guess this stays with you for life too? And is there any precaution I should take when planning my own family? As I was told I almost died within the first week of childbirth because of this. I certainly don’t want to pass that on to my child as we are planning children soon.

      6. I would like to but I keep getting these tingling feelings in my butt. But I understand that with herpes it is not a constant episode but recurrent ones? So this doesn’t sound typical?

      7. This whole episode has really been affecting my personal and professional life but hope to move on. Do you think that I’m at a stage medically where I can do that?

      Thanks for your time Terri.

If you test too soon after a concerning encounter, you are vulnerable to false negatives. But your encounter does not qualify as a concerning encounter.

      2. So there is 0% risk for the exposure mentioned in number 2 above? As it just seemed like the perfect storm from date of exposure to symptoms.

I would say there is zero risk, yes, unless something happened here other than what you are describing as the encounter.

      3. For my own knowledge to acquire hsv1 orally would this require a deep kiss or would just pecks on the lips be able to transmit?

A peck on the lips without a cold sore is not, in my opinion, a risk for acquisition of oral herpes.

      4. I now have been getting tingling in my nose, on the right tip and I start googling and see that you can get herpes in your nose. I have no signs of any blisters Etc. but also read that this can be caused by stress which I’m going to chalk it up to, any thoughts here?

Yes, people with cold sores can get sores in their nose – anywhere on the face is possible.

      5. I was told that I had CMV as a baby and have read that is in the herpes family. Any concern here as I guess this stays with you for life too? And is there any precaution I should take when planning my own family? As I was told I almost died within the first week of childbirth because of this. Most of the population has CMV and though it is also a lifelong infection, it is not normally a concern unless it occurs in immune compromised people (newborns or people with HIV, for example). This is something your partner should discuss with her provider of OB care.

      6. I would like to but I keep getting these tingling feelings in my butt. But I understand that with herpes it is not a constant episode but recurrent ones? So this doesn’t sound typical?

Your tingling is not typical of herpes, no as it is constant not intermittent.

      7. This whole episode has really been affecting my personal and professional life but hope to move on. Do you think that I’m at a stage medically where I can do that?

Yes, you know I think that. I feel like this is not a medical problem but rather a psychological one at this point.

Terri -Thanks. Believe this will be my last post.

For #1 in my last post I was referring to false positives. Not false negatives, as if you keep re testing don’t you have a risk of a false positive?

#2 above – nothing missing in the explanation. Went to std clinic and went onto the table with no pants on for examination, however I don’t think the linens were changed before I entered the room.

I have always been very cautious and yes I agree that I didn’t put my self at much risk even with the initial exposure. However these tingling sensations and the appearance of sores has given me quite a scare.

For example when sleeping last night I was awaken by tingling in my left buttock and there is a single sore there that looks like a pimple type thing. It was more inflamed initially yesterday when I noticed it. Inflammation has decreased over night but looks like a little pimple with a small white middle, size of the type of the head of a pin. is there a typical form of herpes that you usually see on the buttocks?

Only thing left would be to fly to Portland to see the expert, you!

Thanks for your assistance during this time.

I think false positives are very unlikely given your very low numbers.
If there was paper on the table, I think you would have noticed if it was all wrinkely
The skin lesion that you describe does not sound like herpes at all, no, it sounds more like a little pimple to me

      Best
