Hi Terri,
I have a very unfortunate story. Someone in my family’s child had contracted neonatal herpes. I know it’s extremely rare. There’s not too much information out there about it so I thought I would come to your forum to ask questions because my husband and I are concerned that our small child could contract it as all children share toys and germs. The baby had the cns version of hsv never had any skin lesions, they were quite sick but received the antiviral treatment. Since it was in their brain does this mean they cannot spread it by saliva or skin contact?
Will they get any future outbreaks? And if so will they be on the skin or in the brain? I don’t feel comfortable asking my
Family members theses questions since this was already such a difficult situation for them. There’s very little information online about how babies diagnosed in terms of anticipatory
Guidance for the future. Any info you have would be helpful as I know my SIL has wondered these questions herself. Thank you
I’m sorry but I don’t have enough information about that to answer your questions correctly. I would be happy to pass your question along to a specialist in neonatal herpes and see what he says and I will post his response when he answers me. It’s a very tragic situation and thankfully it doesn’t happen very often but when it does, it’s really sad.
Terri
Thank you so much I really appreciate it. I will wait to hear from you for the response.
I did send him a copy of your post asking for help but he is out of the office and may not be back until next week. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything
Terri
