Hi Terry,
its been a long wait and still long way to go for the 12-13-14 weeks period. In the meantime i been getting tested
THe test from Quest always come back as negative HSV 2 .89 not an actual value index, managed to talk on the phone with people from quest and they said that they do not put a actual index value, they always put negative, equivocal or positive. On the other hand the test “HSV 2 Glycoprotein G Ab, IgG” by Solstas came back with a .17
The last test that i took was at 6 weeks after exposure and it came back negative. do you know why or how to interpratate the absence of an index value.
Regarding symphtons, guess i could say mine were atypical if at all herpetic related. Right know Im only experiencing fatigue, mild pain in both legs, and lower back and strep throat that has not gone away after 6 days on antibiotics. are these herpes related? I see that many people get these as a sign of an outbreak, if this is my case i don’t develop actual blisters or sores, and these alerts have been going on for couple of weeks now or so.
Could you explain about seroconversion or guide me to more info on that. just a s a reminder i took acyclovir for 20 days (you told me in a different question that)a 13-14 week wait time would be enough for another serum test).

Some labs just don’t report out index values, especially for negatives. Some do. I don’t think it has any meaning. Your negative is really low.
None of your symptoms, without a lesion, makes me believe that you have herpes. And then you have the negative test to help reassure you for now. I still believe, given three weeks of medication, that you should wait a few more weeks than normal for a reliable test. I’m not sure what you mean about seroconversion – that just means going from negative to positive on an antibody test.Terri

Regarding the seroconverison, just wondering how it works and i have read that there is people that never test positive but have HSV, and that is because they don’t create enough amount of antibodies, or fall in the category of the people that the test misses. is this true?
is there a possibility that you could have hsv2 for several years and never show any symptom and never infect a partner without meds or preservatives?
I have a follow up doc app this week and will be tested again with solstas, Ill let you know the results. I wonder if you have tons of patient that think they have it, and they really don’t but are so worried and stress about it that even imagine some of those symphtoms and just can let it go.

We don’t know why the test misses a few people out of 100 with the screening test. But we know they almost always make antibody because western blot picks it up. It is likely that they may not make one particular protein that the screening test looks for or may not make it in adequate numbers to be detected but they do make the other proteins that are detectable by western blot.
Yes, I have lots and lots of patients who believe they have herpes and can’t let go of the worry and are not infected.

Terry,
Well got results back agin from Solstas negative HSV2 IGG .10 (8weeks after exposure) been off acyclovir since oct 14 (20 days on it) still no lesions. I’m getting tested again at the end of the month and ordering a WB.
The only thing that concerns me is the signs such as muscular pain and sore throat and fatigue.
1. I wonder if these are truly signs for a persistent 1 month outbreak or could be just I don’t develop lesions. Could I have it and just not showing up in my blood?
2.As I understand during the outbreak, your body is already fighting the infection, if this is the case it should show up in my blood right?
3. My testosterone is low (clinically tested, levels low) probably cause all the stress and depression that I’m going through right now. Could these actually affect my blood work or alter my immune system, therefore not creating antibodies?
4. On an optimistic scenario, 8 weeks after exposure what are the chances of staying negative?
Thank you for all the time and effort that you put on answering all the questions.

I seriously doubt that that is the case! Herpes just doesn’t normally behave at all in this way.
2.As I understand during the outbreak, your body is already fighting the infection, if this is the case it should show up in my blood right?
It can take up to 12 weeks to show up in the blood as the immune system continues to fight the virus.
3. My testosterone is low (clinically tested, levels low) probably cause all the stress and depression that I’m going through right now. Could these actually affect my blood work or alter my immune system, therefore not creating antibodies?
No
4. On an optimistic scenario, 8 weeks after exposure what are the chances of staying negative?
Over 70%

Terri,
Regarding my new result on HSV IGG .10 (previous.17) what can you say about this, is this normal or it dosent really matter if it goes up or down.
After several years, could be possible that The IGG dosent show up on the body anymore? In case I really have it and just atypical what can I do? no lesions but weird sensations all over my body, and blood still negative.

I can say that you are still soundly negative and, if the value stays low like this, with 98% certainty, compared to herpes western blot the gold standard you do NOT have HSV 2. Period.

Hi Terri,
Wanted to wait for about a month to write again. If I need to renew please let me know and will do immediately.
Hope ypu remember my case or hope you can recall by skimming to our conversation. Anyways, I was wondering that due to my doze of acyclovir 3 weeks…could it take another 3-4 months for reliable results or 13-14 weeks as you have previously stated… and how about the WB cause if I continue getting negatives its either i don’t have it or I’m on the 2% that misses this test (last test HSV2 IGG .10 Solstas Lab.) 8 weeks after exposure.

I don’t think that three weeks of antiviral therapy requires months more time to allow for seroconversion – perhaps a western blot at 18 weeks would give you the answers you seek? Or 14 weeks with the ELISA screening test.
