I hope you don’t mind, I have 2 issues that gives me worry.
In June 2019, I was physically diagnosed of genital herpes by a doctor.
However, the last 4 months, my case in particular has taken another turn.
I had a massive outbreak which I contained pretty well in October, but since then I am having these below in my right leg(the same side of my genital that has outbreaks). These weren’t there before the massive outbreak.
-Constant burning sensation from my knee down
-Shooting pain radiating down the front of right leg, from thigh down to foot
-Decreased pinprick sensation
– Overall increased sensitive or other times numbness
– Pain in my knee, back thigh.
I have researched and found they can also be caused by my genital herpes – some articles say Sciatica.
Recently, I think the virus has started affecting my right eye, I had prodromal symptoms from yesterday and my right eye is getting blurry and feels different. (I first saw it 3wks ago, it stopped and came back yesterday, but no outbreaks yet, feels like I’m having one, but none yet).
I live in Nigeria and it has been difficult finding a healthcare practitioner with extensive experience on dealing with Herpes, I have searched, no way.
I’ve started suppressive therapy Acyclovir 400mg 2x/d since 5 days.
1. Can a neurologist treat my nerve complications in 1st issue fully?
2. Can continuous suppressive therapy stop me from having the burning and constant pains similar to prodromal symptoms?
I am 29, male, with a bit of not strong immune(started when i was younger), HIV negative as of October test.
These issues give me worry and makes me cry. I can take suppressive therapy but cannot endure the virus causing me other complications like my eyesight and nerve complication.
Another question, does boosting immune system help my cause?
Finally, there isn’t one hospital I can find test of HSV of any kind in my country. Very depressing.
It’s like the virus doesn’t exist for us at all

I saw a doctor and he presented me to run some tests, including IgM for HSV.
He also put me on prescription for the constant pain and burning in my right leg, thighs and buttock.
I am more worried about the right eye now, I have heard that GHS can spread through the nerves to eyes?
A month ago(max) I felt discomfort in my right eye and saw it was like I had network of my right eye veins in bloody colour, also only on the right side of my pupil. I dismissed it and treated immediately with eye drops, it cleared up and my sight got better. 4 days ago, my right eye’s sight turned blurry again(not so much) and also the weird feeling like I have a spec of dust in there, plus minor sensitivity to light). I don’t have any pain in my eye or any swelling at all. Just feels a bit uncomfortable sometimes. It Is also a tiny bit red eyed. My GF looks often into my eyeball and says always it looks like I hit my right eye somewhere.
I met a doctor today for my leg pains and burning sensation, submitted sample for HSV IgM and couldn’t meet the ophthalmologist for eye examination. He said the test has to come back to know the type, since I haven’t done the test before.
I have googled ocular herpes and I have fear and anxiety since 3 days.
Is my symptoms classic spread of the virus from the nerves to the eyes? I have not had an OB anywhere else on my body.
Or am I just having anxiety over nothing?
I will be visiting an eye doctor this week.

The IgM test is useless – you need IgG only.
You should be sure to see the eye doctor. Why couldn’t you see them before? Has any swab testing been done of your eye?

I met an ophthalmologist and he acknowledged my eye issue could be connected, but said I should book appointment if i see the initial symptoms in eye again. Only issue is my eyesight became more blurry and uncomfortable. I met optometrist before that and they couldn’t see any issue with my eye, but the feeling of spec in my eye was there when i met 2 optometrists, but it was not there when I met the ophthalmologist. He said it is possible the antiviral the doctor prescribed for cleared that of my eye.
He checked times and over and couldn’t see anything to suggest OB in my eye.
The initial doctor diagnosed me with Peripheral Neuropathy – Recurrent and Reactivation of HSV. He said the HSV has attacked my nerves and I am to see a neurologist next week.
I paid for the IgG test and will submit sample anytime from tomorrow.

It took me a whole to respond to you because I’ve been waiting for the result of the IgG to come in. Here is the test result as of today.
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1/2 IgG – 12.98
Positive 1.1 – 1000
Negative < 0.9
Borderline 0.9 – 1.1
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1/2 IgG Interpretation POSITIVE
They did not differentiate the type I have and I called them and they want to get in contact with the Laboratory that did the diagnosis.
My issue is worsening, I have lost 80% of the eyesight in my right eye and it is coming over to the left one too. The symptoms of the neuropathy is still as high as it was weeks ago. I don’t know what to do at this point.
