Quick background: positive HSV1 from prior cold sores. Always been negative for HSV2. Past encounter was 10 weeks ago with boyfriend at the time. He was tested prior to us and was negative for hsv. I got tested hsv and all other std 3 weeks post encounter. Then again at 7 weeks. I have had a lot of redness and my Gyno swabbed it and said it looked nothing like herpes. Culture negative. I have raw redness areas on my vagina and it tends to burn. All swabs/std tests/fungal etc came back beg. I don’t use soap just luke warm water. I need to let go of this anxiety my gyno said and has assured me I don’t have genital hsv. Do my symptoms sound like it? Raw red spots and burning? Not blisters or anything. I’ve applied Vaseline to help. I have had a very long period and thought maybe irritation from that issue could be it. I’m lost.
      1) Do you see many people become positive after 7 weeks for IGG or should I feel pretty okay with my results from 3 and 7 weeks post with him testing negative prior to us dating? (I worry he cheated)

2)Does the red raw areas/spots sound like herpes?

I’m tired of going to the doctor and worrying. I know I’m being a little irrational and have googled too much.

3)Does this sound like it to you? Should I worry? I’m obsessively checking. My gyno keeps telling me it is not herpes.

      4)should I let this go?

5)people who have genital herpes say it tingles. I’ll get a random quick tingle then it stops. Is theirs consistently tingling during an outbreak or shoot tingle like I get?

Thank you for all you do. You really help me.

Also I already wrote you prior. Just looking for more clarity when I get some symptoms I can either worry or move forward. Sorry, I hope I’m not annoying. Just anxious. My anxiety is very bad.

I do think that enough time has passed for you to be quite certain that you don’t have HSV 2, (with 92% certainty). And you already have HSV 1 oral infection, so new genital infection would be highly unlikely. You could request that a bacterial culture be done of the raw areas. Sometimes, when I’ve done that in women with genital rawness, I recover bacteria that can be treated. Just a thought.

Thank you Terri, I don’t really feel my main questions have been answered. I was tested prior to sleeping with him (neg for type 2) pos type 1 for past cold sores, but I was tested at 3 week mark and 7 week mark post sleeping with him. He was tested prior to us sleeping together as well as negative. I’ve had swabs for all, including hsv. All negative. Here are my questions:
Do my symptoms sound like it? Raw red spots and burning? Not blisters or anything. I’ve applied Vaseline to help. I have had a very long period and thought maybe irritation from that issue could be it. I’m lost.

Do you think I need to retest? My gyno says with no symptoms and him being negative prior to sex, me negative at 3 and then 7 weeks, that I’m for sure negative. Do I need to test at 12 weeks or is this just excessive? Thanks 🙁

(CONT) To clarify I was tested at 3weeks post and 7 weeks post igg. (Neg)

Anytime I felt anything I was swabbed and negative. Tested and swabbed for all over std and bacteria. It’s been about three months now since. I just wanted those questions above answered to see if I should put this to test or to continue testing. :/ thank you again.

No, they don’t sound like herpes

      1) Do you see many people become positive after 7 weeks for IGG or should I feel pretty okay with my results from 3 and 7 weeks post with him testing negative prior to us dating? (I worry he cheated)
By 7 weeks out, about 75% of people who are going to be positive, will be positive

2)Does the red raw areas/spots sound like herpes?
Red raw spots could be herpes, yes, but you could have raw spots from either a fungal or bacterial infection as well.

I’m tired of going to the doctor and worrying. I know I’m being a little irrational and have googled too much.

3)Does this sound like it to you? Should I worry? I’m obsessively checking. My gyno keeps telling me it is not herpes.

I would suggest that you get a final IgG at 12 weeks and if negative, move on. If you can’t move on with a negative, get a western blot

      4)should I let this go?
      See above

5)people who have genital herpes say it tingles. I’ll get a random quick tingle then it stops. Is theirs consistently tingling during an outbreak or shoot tingle like I get?

it varies greatly, from person to person about tingling. Some people never have it, others have more

Do you think I need to retest? My gyno says with no symptoms and him being negative prior to sex, me negative at 3 and then 7 weeks, that I’m for sure negative. Do I need to test at 12 weeks or is this just excessive? Thanks

I think you should retest at 12 weeks to put your mind at ease.

Okay, so he swabbed the red raw areas and they were Neg for hsv and everything else. He said it looked like irritation and woulD only web to give me a peace of mind. Nothing came of it. Negative for everything. Every time I test I dont leave my bed until I get the results. I have became so scared of this.

1.) so the rawness could be herpes Youre saying? My swab was negative. :/

2.) in my situation would you retest if he had been negative prior to us having sex and then me negative at 7 weeks?

It’s been over 12 weeks. I can test but I spin into full anxiety, do you feel if I was your patient you would recommend it?

My gyno tells me to move on from this if he tested negative prior, me negative prior, and myself then negative at 3 weeks and 7weeks post. Also with no typical herpetic symptoms. Also with a negative swab from the redness.

There was never a blister or sore and I know what those look like from my mouth having them and they aren’t pretty! :/

If you feel I really need it then I will. If you feel I should just move I trust that.

Update. Hsv 2 negative at 12 weeks. I can rest easy now. Last question:

1.) i am negative for hsv 2. I get cold sores on my lip. What is the best way to heal them faster?

2.) sharing cigarette and drinks, do I have a chance of getting hsv 2 orally? I shared one while drunk with a stranger who seemed sketchy and I’m worried of that risk.

      Thank you

      1. With 92% certainty (compared to the western blot) you don’t have HSV 2, that’s correct.
      2. You don’t have a chance of getting HSV 2 orally by sharing cigarettes and drinks, no.
