Hi Terri!
First and foremost, I want to thank you for providing this service. This is desperately needed.
So, around 5 months ago I had unprotected intercourse with a man who conveniently told me after the fact he has GHSV1 and GHSV2. Around 4 months later, I had my first outbreak. The swab test only came back positive for HSV1. If I had HSV2, would it have been detected in that outbreak? I’m not sure how it works. The IGG test (around 12 weeks out) says I am negative for HSV2. Thanks!
Yes, if there was HSV 2 in the lesion, the lab test would have reported both back. You probably should simply believe the IgG test about HSV 2 and move on. GEnital HSV 1 is usually quite a benign infection for most people with few recurrences and little viral shedding.
