Hi Terri,
I’m a heterosexual male in my early 50’s. Last week doctor ordered a routine STD test (bloodwork taken 1/25/23) on me which included a herpes simplex 1 (IgM titer and IgG) and 2 test (IgG). I knew I had type I since I get cold sores. I’ve never had any type of herpes symptoms such as a rash, lesions, blistering, or the pre tingle feeling you get prior to an outbreak in my genital area. I’ve also had chicken pox when I was 21. I was shocked when I learned that the IgG test came back as herpes type 2 posiitve since I’m super careful and never have unprotected genital to genital sex unless in a long term relationship and we both have been tested for all STD’s. I’ve never been promiscuous but was more sexually active than usual due to a recent trip to the Philippines. I had sex while wearing a latex condom in November 2022 and a few times in late December 2022. I also had unprotected oral sex (I didn’t perform it I was the receiver) twice in November and a few times in December 2022 when I was in the Philippines with two different girls I dated. I’m still dating the second one and this is turning into a stable relationship and I plan to go back to see her in the next month or two so I’d like to know if I really have herpes so I can share that information with her. I always immediately shower after any form of sexual contact with anti bacterial soap (if that even helps). What is the likelihood of a false positive and do you suggest I proceed with the Western Blot test based on what I’ve shared? Can I send you (or upload) my test results so I can make sure I’m passing on the test details accurately?
Thank you so much,
Finster
Please post your IgG results here so I can help you decide what to do next
Terri
