I recently had unprotected sex with my partner and my main concern was pregnancy. i took the morning after pill and a couple days later I used Refresh. 2 days later I started to experience pretty heavy discharge that was yellowish and a decent amount of pain. I thought I had a UTI so I went in to see my Gyno. While she was examining me she realized I had what she called a lesion and did a swap test for Herpes. She put me on Valtrex and ordered blood work. The swab test was negative but my blood work came back with a positive IGG of 3.10 and a negative IGM. This whole incident has me pretty shocked, scared and looking for answers. My partner recently tested negative. I’ve never had anything even closely resemble a Herpes outbreak nor have I experienced an episode like this before and I’m wondering if it is possible something else caused this “lesion” since my swab was negative and if taking the Western Blot is beneficial for confirmation in my case?
You said you had an index value of 3.1 – for what, HSV 1, HSV 2, or did you have a combined 1 and 2 test. Can you clarify? The CDC says anyone who tests positive for HSV 2 with an index value below 3.5 needs a confirmatory test to avoid false positives in that low positive range. So yes, you need a blot. I can help you with that or you can work with your own provider to get this confirmatory test.
Good. Now you need to identify a clinician who will order the test. You can order the kit yourself but not the test itself.
