Hi Terri,
These are my follow up questions. I had mentioned that my husbands lab work was done with diasorin labs hsv 2igg at 2.0. I could not find any of your recent posts about the issue with this lab. Can you please tell me the problem that you have found with this lab and if retesting first with another brand is better or going to western blot is reasonable
It just feels to me like I have seen more false positives with Diasorin; I have no objective data about that specifically, but I have also heard other clinicians express concern about the test – I have no science to back that up. I think the western blot is the best answer.
Terri
Does it make it more likely it is truly positive if we have a result from before this incident which says negative? Also it is likely to have this from one protected intercourse, unprotected oral?
Honestly I’m a mess over this. We just went to another doctor to get retested and she was very convincing this low positives are almost always positive and retesting will not do much of anything and I should accept it
Sorry, haven’t gotten a last response. Please do, when available. Thanks
I completely disagree with your doctor. The literature is very clear on this point and in fact, this information has been incorporated into the CDC STD treatment guidelines (page 49). You may wish to print this out for your doctor so they can be more up to date o this information. If the two ELISA tests were not done by the same lab, they really can’t be compared. Retested? So you had another ELISA done or did you arrange with UW to get the western blot?
Terri
He retested not by diasorin labs .. New results stated negative
Hsv I ab igg 0.19 and hsv type 2 iGG 0.33, less than 0.89 is negative. What in the world do I believe. This is in a week differenc. Please advise.
I think u may have skipped this. Please help. Do I believe the negative or positive result?
Thus the problem with the first lab. I would believe the negative. It looks like he had a Quest or LabCorp result this time, is that correct?
