Hi there!
Here is my story. My husband and I have been married for 7 years and together for 15. We have three children. Three years ago we separated for a short time and my husband has now only recently admitted to me that he had sexual inter course with someone . He says he used a condom. Once finding out I sent him in for all std testing and I went in as well. He tested positive for hsv 2 igg at 2.0. I tested negative for everything. He had a negative hsv 1 and 2 five years ago before we started having kids. So this is a change. Is this a false positive? How can I be negative? He has never had any lesions or sores or outbreaks of any type. I do not know how to mend this marriage with this in my life now. How am I suppose to continue intimacy with this man. I’m scared. -

His index value of 2.0 falls into the low positive range, and according the CDC STD treatment guidelines, this needs confirmation. The gold standard for herpes testing is the herpes western blot. This cannot be obtained through usual testing avenues. You can get this test either by sending to the University of Washington for a kit to be drawn by your regular doctor or our clinic ca arrange this test for you to be drawn at a lab near your home and shipped to the University of Washington. At 2.0, there is greater than a 50-50 chance this is a false positive. Don’t get too worked up until you have a firmer answer – this may well not be an issue. Also, are you certain he was tested before you had children?

Yes he was tested in 2009 and all was negative both hsv 1 and 2. Also, can this very well possible that after at least three yearsof unprotected inter course I can still be negative while he is positive. My heart is breaking from all this.

The fact that you are negative with his 2.0 makes it slightly more likely that this is a false positive, but it is also possible to go years without infecting a partner at all.
When you were separated, did you discuss what about seeing other people?Terri

The test used I just found out what diasorin from sunrise medical laboratories. It is iGG type specific. Is this a reputable source or more likely a false positive

I have seen more problems with this test than with others (if you have read any of my previous posts about this test). I strongly recommend confirmatory testing by western blot.

How can I set up western blot? This is truly killing our relationship at this point.

I need to pay for more questions but with everything I have given you as far as information does this seem like a false positive. I am negative, he is positive via diasorin labs at 2.0, no outbreaks ever- incident was three years ago. Thanks in advance.

I would say there is about 55% chance this is a false positive.
Yes, you need to pay for another round of questions – you’ve exceeded the number of responses you’ve paid for.Terri
