      Good Morning,

In January my Oral HSV1 passed to my girlfriend and she got Genital HSV1. My girlfriend is 26 years old, immune compromised and also recently discovered she has cervical dysplasia due to HPV. Since January she has been taking 1000mg of Valtrex daily.

Since her initial outbreak she has had 6-7 more genital outbreaks, usually before her periods begins. Is there anything we can do to lessen the amount of outbreaks? Will her reoccurrences subside? She meditates, gave up smoking, eats healthy. Is there another medication, supplement etc?

      Thank you

I would suggest that she have these outbreaks swab tested at the time they show up to be absolutely certain that they represent genital HSV 1 outbreaks. While HSV 1 genital infection is more active in the first year of being infected, what you describe is quite abnormal Especially since she is on a relative high dose of Valtrex.

      Hello Terri,
They are herpes outbreaks as she visits her obgyn when they happen to confirm. They are not as severe as the first episode but still noticible.

So are you saying that with these outbreaks she visits her OB and has them swab tested or just a visual inspection?

Her Doctor does a visual inspection, but they are outbreaks.

Is there anything we can do to lessen the amount of outbreaks? Will her reoccurrences subside over time?
