So I have never shown any symptoms or had any flare ups/rash/lesions in the genital area and I haven’t been checked in a while due to being in a relationship. I get cold sores maybe 1 time a year and my gf gets them several times a year so I wasn’t nevessarily surprised by the HSV-1 feed back of >58.0 which after all the reading I’ve done seems to me that it could be something I’ve carried for a long time as I said above, I’ve dealt with 1-2 cold sores a year for as long as I can remember.
About a month ago I had protected sex with a woman and the condom broke and like an idiot I didn’t worry about it. Well fast forward 33 days and still no signs or anything out of the ordinary but just as a precaution I wanted to get tested so I ordered the test online and it was preformed at Quest Diagnostics and it came back with the HSV-1 >58.0 and HSV-2 >2.38. I’ve also seen other posts where people had the exact same number as myself so I was wondering if that’s just a threshold they use to classify different severity levels or for time frame purposes?
After reading replies I will certainly get confirmatory tests but I wanted to get your opinion on what I could do to get the WB test?
Thank you for your time.

I seriously doubt that there was a “>” sign in front of the 2.38, that is such a specific number, but I guess it is possible but I cannot imagine why that would be.
At this index value, there is a 50-50 chance that this is a true positive. So yes, based on this, the CDC recommends that you get a confirmatory western blot. You can work with your own provider to get this test done (you need the kit from UW) or I can work with you to get it. You can order the kit from UW, 206-685-6066 and be all ready to get the test when you decide on a provider to order it for you – you cannot order the TEST yourself, but you can order the kit.Terri

My mistake.. it was not a >sign next to the HSV-2 reading it was just the 2.38 number.. like I said I have no symptoms except maybe a slight burning sensation that I’m noticiing now but that could be the psychological effect on me now that I’ve seen this result.. I am a self pay patient at my primary doctor and I hardly ever see her. Is there a way to set this up with you and schedule whatever it is that we need to move forward?

Of course. You need to set up a video conference with me on the home page of this website and you also need to get the kit ordered for the blot

How long does it take to ship?

Once you place the order with UW for the kit, it takes about 7-10 days to arrive at your house. You need to have a video conference with me if you want me to be the ordering clinician and I think I don’t have any appointments available until the first week in April.
