Hi again Terri. I posted a few weeks ago after just receiving my results. I requested my lab results, which were done at mayo clinic. There were no numerical values. Today I just had my annual exam with my regular doctor and shared my lab results with her and asked her to retest me with numerical values so that I could have some confirmation that I didn’t receive a false positive. She said while hsv-2 is quite common here, most of the testing is done through lab on a visual lesion and they don’t frequently do blood tests. She would like to know what the specific testing is called so the do the proper blood draw and are able to request values, she mentioned titer. I also spoke of the western blot, they could draw my blood and I could send it in. Do I need to contact your office for that?
You asked previously where I live – Oregon although, not near Portland.
Thank you for all that you do in educating us! The doc said it sounded like I knew more about it than her. Ugh, I admitted I have severe information overload!
The test done at Mayo and the test that you need are the same – the difference is that Mayo just does not report out the index values, which is really a mistake in my opinion as we gather more information about the false positive range.
The test you want is type specific IgG for HSV 1 and 2. But before you have it drawn again, I would advise that you ask your doctor what lab they use and then call the lab and see if you have this done, will they report out the index values.
You do need to contact our office for the western blot or you can contact UW directly. We can arrange for your blood to be drawn and shipped to UW at a lab near where you live or work.
Titer is very very old and not relevant anymore. Yes, I think you might know more than she does about herpes
Terri
