Hi!
I am looking for some guidance on an encounter with a friend. This was purely an oral encounter (he was the receiver, no condom). There was no intercourse. I strongly believe I have had Oral HSV2 for years now (actually believe I passed it on to myself from a bad nail biting habit and not clearly understanding Genital HSV2/the transmission/shedding behind it). I do have outbreaks on my lip (2 to 3 times / year). This specific encounter happened after the outbreak but there was still some tingling / burning on my lips (no scabbing). The encounter was primarily licking him (vs sucking), kissing the tip of him and kissing around his pubic area (probably for 10 to 15 minutes). Afterwards, i am still feeling some tingling around my lips, no open sore. I am not on any medications. Is this a high risk exposure to him?
Thank you!
First, if you are getting sores 2-3 times per year orally, you should have them swab tested and determine if they are HSV 1 or HSV 2 or herpes at all. Having oral HSV 2 is rare and having it recur that often is even more rare.
It sounds like the activities that you participated in with him presents very little risk of transmission of herpes to him, regardless of the type of HSV you have orally.

Thank you Terri. So far, it seems like i did not put him at risk. I will take your advice about swab tests. These sores are in the same spot each time and i even get open cuts on lip now (not sores/blisters). All of this usually comes on after tingling and itching on my lip.
Sounds like a plan. Try to swab as early as possible in any symptoms that you see.
