I am the daughter. I believe I am experiencing my second outbreak and very saddened by it. When I spoke to my gynecologist he told me that my lesions would occur in the same spot as my initial outbreak. However, this does not seem to be happening. Do the lesions and ulcers usually occur in the same spot? It is a much milder case, but I am not sure if it is actually an outbreak. How do I know if I am experiencing another outbreak? Will I experience any symptoms like I did when I had my initial outbreak?
I was prescribed 500 mg of Valtrex daily, and began taking two starting yesterday in order to slow down the outbreak. Will 1000 mg of Valtrex suppress the outbreak and make it less painful?
Thank you for your support.
I disagree with your doctor. Research shows that about 50% of recurrent outbreaks happen in the same location but that means 50% occur randomly in the boxer shorts area. The virus simply traveled on a different nerve of the sacral ganglia to get to the surface of the skin. It is appropriate to treat this recurrence, yes. The usual dose for recurrent treatment if 500 mg twice a day for three days. Usually the symptoms of a recurrences are far milder than the first outbreak.
