Terri,
Reading through this forum has really helped me deal with my recent test results. I went in for a wellness check up and was completely unaware I was being tested for HSV 1 & 2. I received a call that I was indeed positive for both. I have had HSV 1 for as long as I can remember. My step mother had them and I think I caught them from her growing up. Anyways, so my concern was the HSV 2. After research, I called back to get the index, it was a 1.8. I have had one sexual partner and we are waiting to get his test results back. I don’t want to have false hope, but I want to pursue a WB in hopes I could have a false positive. What are the chances? If my partner is negative and he has been my only partner.. Would this be more hopeful for a false positive? I have never showed any symptom of anything, not even vaginal discomfor. I’m going to see my physician in hopes she will be willing to order the WB for me. There is anxiety all around and I don’t know where to go from here. Thank you.

If your partner is negative for HSV 2 and he has been your only partner, then you don’t have HSV 2. This is a sexually transmitted infection.
Your physician cannot order the western blot for you, I don’t believe, but you can try. At 1.8, there is a 55% chance this is a false positive. If you do want the western blot, our clinic can order it for you at any Quest lab in the US.
Let’s see what your partner’s test results are and go from there, OK?Terri

He has been. I am patiently awaiting his results. I will post back to y ou when I know them. I called UW’s Virology department today and they said that I had to have a physician fill the requisition form and send in the order with my sample to their lab for the test. I will be in touch with you about ordering it if this does not work. If I go through your clinic, would there be help in finding the a lab to complete the work? And would I still have to have a kit sent? When I spoke to UW they said that they couldn’t send one straight to me.. That labs could do it without the kit, but they could request one of they wanted step by step instructions.
If you don’t mind running through the general steps with me please.
Thank you for your response.

Terri,
I was trying to find a Quest lab near me and if its Quest diagnositics I think there is one within ten miles from me. If so it sounds like having your clinic order the test to be done there sounds like the best option. If the test is ordered there will they ship the package for me or will I have to go through the whole personal kit ordering and sending myself?
Thank you for all of your help.

Yes, if we ordered the test for you, Quest will take care of everything. All you do is show up and have your blood drawn, pretty easy actually. What state do you live in?

Georgia. Do I just call your office to set it up?
