Hi Terri, I have been diagnosed with GHSV2 since last year. I know after the first few months your body develops antibodies that make it difficult to pass HSV to another area (ie OHSV2). I have a tendency to bite my lips a lot when I’m anxious, sometimes until they bleed. I also really enjoy oral sex with my partner. My question is, does the antibody rule still apply if I have a cut on my lip? Or am I way more likely to develop OHSV2 because the herpes would be directly exposed to me orally via the cut? Thank you
Sorry, I should clarify my partner also has GHSV2. He is the one that passed it to me. And we regularly engage in oral sex. I haven’t had any symptoms of OHSV2 but the lip biting has been a lot worse as of late and I am nervous about getting OHSV2 and having it in both places.
I’m glad you asked. The cut doesn’t make it more likely that you would acquire HSV 2 orally, no. If you were diagnosed last year, and he is also infected with HSV 2, your infection is well established and if I were you, I would take this off my worry list. If by some rare circumstance, you did acquire this orally, it would look just like a cold sore and likely not recur. Enjoy your sexual relationship and try not to be concerned about this.
