Hello Terri on July 4th 2020 I had unprotected sex (both vaginal & oral) with a female and I have been dealing with complications ever since. My symptoms began with constipation, rectal spasms, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes in my neck & groin, terrible acne on my forhead, a tingling sensation in my testes and burning when I would ejaculate. In August 2020 I got a full STD panel done and everything came back negative. At the clinic I went to I was pretreated with two tablets of 250mg of AZITHROMYCIN in case I had chlamydia and felt absolutely perfect. All of my symptoms with my genitalia went away and were gone for almost a week but came back. The following month I got another STD panel done and tested equivocal for HSV 2. I was told to disregard the results due to the timing and since I was having a reaction towards azithromycin (since antibiotics wouldn’t affect a virus). After getting a repeat in November I tested positive and was prescribed ACYCLOVIR for a week. I felt a very minor relief while taking them but my symptoms did not go away. That December I started acknowledging a few small cysts on my pubic area that developed into ulcers and were bursting. My doctor prescribed me 1 gram of azithromycin. The cyst had completely disappeared but I was still experiencing the symptoms with my genitalia. I was referred to a gastroenterologist for my bowel issues and was diagnosed with H.pylori. I was prescribed two antibiotics (METRONIDAZOLE & DOXYCYCLINE) for two weeks. On just the first day they seemed to had been also treating the symptoms with my genitalia and also the acne on my forehead. When I was done with them I felt no symptoms once again for about two weeks and they returned. I then got the inhibition assay for HSV 2, in the span of two years I have gotten retested three times and they’ve come back negative every time. I am still experiencing a lot of pain have gotten no where with urologist and need some sort of guidance thank you.

Also after I started testing positive on the standard test I made who I had sex with get tested as well. She tested flat out negative and got the test done almost a year after we had sex so I don’t have reason to believe she has it but I am confused. I do recall her saying she was in pain after our sexual encounter which I now realize may indicate she may have some type of infection going on. To add on to the symptoms I have experienced I have had a very stiff neck, a lot of rectal pain and a lot of GI problems (which as of today I have cleared with many gastroenterologists), I have been very anemic and I am worried. I decided to try to come back to the topic of HSV 2 since it is the only STD I seemed to test positive for. Have you ever heard of a situation similar to mine and based on what I told you do you have any idea what this may possibly be?

I have not heard of this group of specific symptoms being related to HSV 2, no. I think you should believe your negative HSV 2 and seek a different explanation for what’s going on with you. If you remain unconvinced that you don’t have HSV 2, you could take the western blot to be more certain. but I really think you are on the wrong track here thinking this might be HSV

I do not believe I have HSV 2 but the symptoms I have been having are just frustrating and I was very puzzled that I even tested false positive. My PCP also felt that it sounded like I may have caught Epstein Barr Virus and after getting the test done I tested positive IGG but negative IGM although I don’t recall ever having symptoms of EBV in the past. Do you think this may be the case since they are in the same family ? I definitely felt some sort of reaction toward Acyclovir but it was nothing compared to how I felt taking antibiotics. I will be taking the western blot for sure just for one more piece of confirmation. My last question for you is does taking any antivirals affect the confirmatory and western blot test at all?
