So recently began getting intimate with new partner, we both are very serious about sex health and used protection. While having intercourse, condom has popped once, and come off once. Immediately stopped when noticed. Fast forward, i go to get tested about two weeks after last incident. I personally have never been tested for HSV at all, but went to get tested for everything and all my results were negative except HSV2 which was 1.18 lgg. Today I went in for a retest and should have results Wednesday the latest, and i’m wondering if I should tell my partner or wait until second LabCorp llg comes in (with supplement reflex i believe it was called). We are a month in and she is a germaphobe and gets anxiety about cleanliness so i really dont want to scare her, but i want to be honest. I like this woman alot and things are just startng to pick up. I have been quite distant the past few days and we usually spend time together weekends when we’re off, but i have made no initiations. With a 1.18 and no symptoms, what is the best way to go about this?

I don’t think LabCorp has their supplemental in stock right now.
At 1.18, there is a 90% chance that this is a false positive. You could do the herpes western blot if your second test is positive as well. I don’t think you need to alarm your partner quite yet but if your second test is positive, you definitely need a good confimartory test so you can provide her with reassurance.Have you had any symptoms of HSV genitally?Terri

I haven’t had any symptoms at all. That and the low score are leading me to believe it’s a false positive but I want to consider my lady friend’s safety as well as keeping honesty and integrity. To tell her and make her anxiety go up just seems counterintuitive so I just made sure we didn’t have sex yesterday or do any touching. I have retest results coming Wednesday at the latest though.

So the results came back and I feel like I should talk with my partner? Any advice? It was a .91 this time. I still have 0 symptoms and only got tested because she’s a new partner and wanted us to be comfortable.

0.91 is just one 0.1 away from being negative. I have no concerns that you have HSV 1, BUT
I think since you are worried about this, you should talk with your partner about this, just as you have spoken with me. And if she is still concerned or you are, you can get a herpes western blot from the University of Washington, either through your own provider or through me.
I would bet a whole lot of money, you are not infected.Terri
