› Forums › Herpes Questions › Should I get a Western Blot?
Hi,
I just got test results back from a routine STI exam. I have never had any HSV symptoms but have had unprotected sex in the past. My results were positive:
HSV 1 IGG, Type Specific AB – 1.49H
HSV 2 IGG, Type Specific AB – 1.60H
I had a follow up HSV2 IGG, W/REFL Inhibition test with another IGG Type Specific and and HSV2 IGG Inhibition ELISA test performed with the following results (again positive).
HSV2 IGG W/REFL, IGG, Type Specific – 2.16H
HSV2 IGG INHIBITION, ELISA – Positive (no value given).
Should I purse a Western Blot confirmatory test given the other results. The Dr. that recommended the follow-up ELISA test does not think so.
Yes, you absolutely need a western blot. This is a CDC guideline, not mine. I do not trust the inhibition assay as the final decision maker on this.
Terri
