› Forums › Herpes Questions › Should i get a western blot
Hello
I recently got an std test and my HSV 2 test came back positive with a 2.72, my HSV 1 was negative with >0.90. After researching I see that low positives should get a retest and mines falls into that category. I became more curious when I seen that it takes 12 weeks to test positive taking an IGG test. My sexual encounter which was slightly unprotected and protected oral sex was 6 or 7 weeks ago. Also I have no symptoms or outbreaks of herpes. So I ask is it worth it getting the western blot test? Is my test a false positive? Or do I have genital herpes?
Thanks for your help
Also would like to add that my father who I live with is currently battling shingles and I have came in contact with him. I know shingles is related to herpes, could this have affected my test?
Shingles is related to herpes but this isn’t what’s going on with you. No.
Yes, you need a western blot
And it can take up to 12 weeks to test positive on the IgG test but many many people test positive sooner than that. For the western blot they like you to wait 12 weeks before doing the test for greatest accuracy.
