› Forums › Herpes Questions › Should I get Western Blot? Help Understanding Results
A month ago I tested for HSV1&2 and others at the request of my partner so we could have unprotected sex. I came back positive for both and was very surprised and distraught b/c I have never had symptoms. My last sexual partner prior to this was in October.
1st Test
HSV 1 > 58
HSV 1 2.42
IGM Negative for HSV1 & HSv2
2nd Test (went somewhere else to get tested because I thought retesting was how you confirmed)
HSV1 > 58
HSV2 2.10
No supplements
3rd Test (asked for my results to be emailed and saw that confirmation testhad to be a inhibition assay not just going to get tested again.
HSV1 > 58
HSV2 2.20
Inhibition Assay
The HSV-2 gig screening assay was repeated on a different platform as part of the inhibition testt and the result was negative. This the inhibition result could not be determined. Most samples exhibiting this type of discrepancy have initial HSV-2 IGg index values of 1.10-3.00. If early HSV02 infection is suspected submission of another sample collected 2-3 weeks after is recommended.
A positive inhibition interrpretion indicts true hsv-2 specific reactivity, whereas a negative suggests that the positive screening index is falsely positive.
Does this mean I am negative? Should I get a western blot? I doubt timing is the issue and my current partner does not have it. Please advise.
I believe that you are very likely negative for HSV 2. WE see false positive inhibition assays, but when the IA is negative, that’s a very good sign. We could do the blot, for sure, if you need more reassurance. Let me know

okay thank you, can you also change my username from my email? I submitted two forms about this and haven’t heard anything back. Thanks again
