Hi Terri!
So here’s my story. This past January I decided to get some STD testing since it was the beginning of a new year. My results were as follows:
HSV 1/11 combo: 1.50 H
As everyone else with this diagnosis, I am completely devastated and overly emotional about my results. Since this type of test did not specify which HSV was positive, I had my blood drawn for a type specific test a week later.
HSV 2: 1.31 H
HSV 1: <.91 which is negative according to the index scale.
I’m just not sure if I have had any symptoms or not. I know each individual is different and symptoms vary from person to person. I have Had like 3 bumps, not on my vagina but off to the side. But they just do not look like what I’ve seen on the internet or what my friend with HSV2 has. I was seeing someone for 6 mnths prior to my results but as soon as I told him he left me. Which I understand. I reached out to him a few weeks ago and asked if he had had testing done. He said he went to a clinic and they told him everything was okay but that he would follow up with a doctor for confirmation. My partner before him, that I was with for over a year, said he doesn’t have anything and that he doesn’t want to hear anything else about it. I just don’t know what to believe with that one. This situation has really gotten the best of me. I visited my gyno and she didn’t have much to say but that it’s not a big deal everyone has it and I will still be able to have another child. Then she took my results and made a copy and that was pretty much that. I’ve been doing months and months of reading which made me order the WB from UW and it’s sitting at my office. I work in a lab and figured my boss (a nurse) can fill it out for me but I guess a physician has to order it. I can still spin it down & everything at work so that solves that problem. Is it worth spending all this money on? Or are the few bumps I have basically a definitive answer?
It is absolutely worth doing!! That is what the CDC recommends and I hope you will do it.
Yes, you will need a clinician to order it – NP, PA or MD. At this level there is an 85% chance this is a false positive. Please do it!
Terri
