Hi Terri, a few weeks ago i got a red bump on the shaft of my penis so my doctor advised me to do a full std test, Keep in mind i had not been in a sexual relationship for about 3 years , when i received my results which were IGG elissa HSV1 positive , HSV2 positive with no index value on either, for some reason here in Australia the tests do not have an index value, a week later i did another IGG Elissa test through a diffrent lab that came back HSV1 positive HSV2 positive again with no index value, after reading your forum and seeing there might be a chance of false positive and not having an index value i decided to go for a western blot which came back HSV1 positive HSV2 negative , should i accept that i am HSV2 negative and would a follow up western blot be necessary?

You were able to get a western blot in Australia? That’s great! And yes, you should accept the western blot results and enjoy them fully. We often see the situation that you describe here in the US, so not unusual at all. Please let me know if you have other questions.

Thanks so much Terri , your forum has been a blessing, my doctor diagnosed me with hsv 2 due to my IGG blood tests results , i told him i never had any symptoms & outbreaks besides cold sores as a kid, but he was very persistant that i had the virus and told me that i just had to deal with it, i came across your forum and spoke to him about it and reluctantly i made him order a wester blot which is done at westmead sydney ,2 weeks later my hsv 2 wb was negative.

Wow, that is so great! I am going to keep this as a resource for those who live in Australia. Yes, by all means, trust your negative, assuming it was at least four months from your last possible exposure (ie. last date of sexual contact) to the drawing of the blood for the western blot
