I’ve always asked to be tested for all STDs… My doctor’s office was not, I’ve been with the same doctor for over 15years. About a month ago, the Herpes test was included. Results from LabCorp.. IgG HSV-1=51.10; HSV-2 4.21.. I knew I would be positive for HSV-1 since I got my first “cold sore” when I first kissed at 17… Was married for over 11 years.. Ex-Husband was unfaithful 3 times that I know of… I’ve had 2 other partners after him… I have never had an outbreak.. When I have had vaginal itching and gone to the doctor, it’s been yeast infections… I’ve been with my current boyfriend for 5 years, living together for 4 years (partner #3)As soon as I received my results, I told him to get tested. He is not positive… HSV2= .06
My question: should I take the western blot test since I haven’t had an outbreak and my boyfriend isn’t positive?

I know less about the false positive range in the test that you took (can you get me the brand?) but it is very low compared to the HSV 1 index value, so I would say, yes, get a western blot to be certain. You will want to know if there is a possibility for certain that you could infect him or anyone else in the future. You have a very strong HSV 1 result so there could be some cross reactivity with the HSV 2 test. If it were me, I would do it in a heartbeat. It sounds like you are starting anew life now, it would be good to know exactly what is going on herpes-wise.

I can call my doctor to ask for the exact name. My paperwork just says LabCorp HSV1 IgG Type specific 51.10 and HSV-2 Type Specific 4.21

That’s OK, I know now which test it is. I believe it is the Captia test. Honestly, I have seen a lot of low positives from the Captia test and at least with the western blots that I have ordered, I think many are false positives. I just looked back to many of our test results and believe that is the case although I have no studies to give you an exact percentage, it is a gut reaction.

You definitely need a western blot. You are the poster child for needing a western blot!
