I had 2 sexual encounters with a HSV2 positive girl. 7 days ago and 14 days ago. I’m a 29 year old male.

For the past 5 days I’ve had a general ache and itchiness in my genital area, and also have been urinating a bit more frequently. It’s starting to get a little better, 5 days after first noticing.

However I have examined myself carefully and I have 0 sores, raises bumps, spots.

I suffer from health anxiety and have worried myself that these mild symptoms maybe herpes.

The girl thinks it’s very unlikely as she has never displayed symptoms, never passed it on and we used protection.

She recommends I only test if I get clearer symptoms as it’s a CDC recommendation.

Should I test or just go about living my life and keep an eye out for a real outbreak in the future?

Must be noted as well that my health anxiety can sometimes convince myself of symptoms that don’t exist.

The IgG tests that are currently routinely available have a high rate of false positives. I would not suggest using them. I suspect your symptoms are worry, not HSV symptoms, but I can’t be 100% sure. If you do test, I would suggest that you use the western blot from the UW as there are no false positives on this test. YOu can work with your own provider to get this or with me. Both work.
