Hello Terri,
Two weeks ago, I received unprotected oral sex from a woman I barely knew. Approximately five days ago, I started noticing a single small red bump on the edge of my penis head. The bump has not changed in the past five days. It doesn’t look like it has any fluid in it or anything. It’s not really noticeable at first, but it’s definitely there, especially after I examine it. It doesn’t hurt when I press on it. It is also a little more noticeable when I have an erection. I don’t know if I may have contracted herpes or not. I’m also unsure if it’s due to irritation from examining it so often. I’m extremely anxious and very paranoid about this situation. I thought I noticed other, much tinier bumps but those as well have not changed. I went to an STD clinic and the doctor told me that it didn’t look like herpes and that it would be painful and in clusters if it was. I would really appreciate your advice on this.

I should note that after receiving oral sex from this person, she told me that she has herpes. I did not see any lesions or blisters, but I am aware of asymptomatic shedding. Would a small red bump like this (slightly raised) be unchanged for almost 6 days?

The bump does not sound like herpes, no. Herpes lesions do not remain the same for 6 days. I’m guessing this is just an irritated spot. And if she has genital herpes only, then her giving you oral sex only presents no risk at all to you.’

Hello Terri,
Thank you for your response. The girl told me that she had an outbreak on her lips last summer. As for the bump, it is not as visible but it is still there. Still slightly red, but unchanged. It has been about 9 days. As you said, this rules out herpes?

If she has both oral and genital herpes and was the giver of oral sex to you, this could be herpes but it’s not behaving like typical herpes does by staying so long unchanged. You may wish to go see your doc if you still have concerns and ask for their opinion and swab testing if they think it could be herpes.

Hello Terri,
I have on additional follow up question. This is a separate matter from the bump I originally asked about. On the underside of my penis head, right underneath the foreskin, I noticed another tiny bump with tiny pinprick bumps as well (tuesday). They looked like they had whiteheads or something. Anyway, I went to see my dermatologist on wednesday and he said it does not look herpetic and the pinprick bumps looks like something called ‘milia’ (I might be wrong on the spelling). The bump is not painful to the touch, but I occasionally feel almost unnoticeable discomfort throughout the day. Today is now saturday, and the bump(s) look the same. I should note that it feels firm, and I’ve been kinda aggressive with it while examining myself. It hasn’t ever popped. I have a follow up appointment with my dermatologist on Thursday, but I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on the matter in the meantime.

I should also disclose that I am taking cipro from a UTI infection as well.
