      Hi Terry

I have been dating a HSV 2 positive woman for the last 4 months. She takes antiviral a and we use condoms every time..

A week ago I notice a little burning feeling on my penis while orinating and became aware of a very small cut ( wound) under my urethra, with a witish color on top… I also noticeed a small amount of Smegma on my penis shaft. This cut or wound seamed to have come out of no where or for any reason.

The cut heal very quickly living a yellowish scab than came out on the 4th day… ( it lasted 4 days since I became aware of it)

I had a very slightly burning sensation for about 2 days while the skin had a small fissure and it when away when it started scabbing.

I did not have blisters or any other symtoms. Unfortunately I am away from home and I could not go to the doctor to get a swab test done…

I was tested for hsv antibodies two weeks ago, the results came back positive for hsv1 and negative for hsv2..

I would like to think this was a yeast
infection but I have never had one and I am also circumcised…I don’t think I could be from sex because I have had no sex for more than 2 weeks.

I read that first infection from hsv2 on hsv 1 carriers are much less sever and most of the time do not follow the normal symptoms..

In your opinion Is this most likely a new hsv2 infection?

Could a first infection last only 4 days if I carry the hsv1 virus..

I would love to hear your opinion since I have been dealing with much anxiety because of this lately..

      Thank you so much

It’s so difficult to know what is going on when people report symptoms such as these. Could it be herpes? Yes, it could be, I never like to hear scabbing on the penis or cuts, especially in people who are having sex with some one who has HSV 2. Is it likely while using condoms? Not really. So what to make of this and what to do?

I would recommend retesting in about 10 weeks and certainly if you get another one of these please go have it swab tested when you first see it and PCR is far better than culture for the swab test.

My opinion? I would say maybe a 30% chance it is herpes – that’s a sort of a wild guess but you can see my thoughts about it in the first paragraph of this post.

Sorry my mistake. I did not know how to use the site… So I am posting the same post here continuing the first question… My status is HSV 1 and I dating a woman with HSV2…I was tested 2 weeks ago and I was hsv2 negative.

      Hi Terry

Thanks for your time to answer my questions!

I wrote you yesterday about a small fissure or cut that could be related to Herpes.

I am defenetlely geting tested in 10 weeks.
I would like to please ask you a few more questions in the mean time . I just payded for another question.

The small fissure was covered in a small amount of a white substance. This white substance was also in my penis shaft.. I washed and cleaned the area and noticed a fissure-cut..
I also notice white flakey dry skin around the area..This made me think that hopefully it may be an irritation or reaction to yeast..

I would like to add that just before becoming aware of this I drove two days across the desert, it was quite hot. Maybe this could be conducive to yeast…

I read online than yeast infection in circumcised man are quite rear..

Do you hear much about people having small fissures caused by candidiasis or Trush instead of Herpes?

Could this white substance be related to HSV2?

The small fissure was smaller than a grain of rice, it never hurted when I touched it.

Can a herpes fissure or cuts be painless and also not itch or burn?

It’s posible that I could have missed the initial stage of this and became aware later but I think it’s unlikely…
For what I noticed this fissure scbed and healed in 3 to 4 days.

Is it likely for a first non primary hsv 2 outbrake resolves in 3 to 4 days?

Dr handsfield wrote that most HSV 2 first out brakes in people that have HSV 1 most of the time does not follow the classic symptoms and many time are confused by Trush, yeast, insect bites, ingroewn hair etc..

He also said that by far the main reason of fissure and abrasions that leave a scab in the genital are herpes releted. This makes me very concerned…

      Would you agree with that?

I have 2 photos, could I please send them to you, I would really like you to tell me what you think from the photos?

Your estimate of 70% not being herpes sounds much better than what I expected. I hope you feel the same after seeing the photo.

Please let me know where to send them…

      No problem at all.
again, I think herpes is unlikely in your case 1) because you’ve been using condoms regularly and the location of the lesion is inconsistent with likely first infection since this area is covered by a condom. But the scabbing does worry me a little and I would suggest that you get tested again at 12 weeks with the IgG test.
I don’t look at pictures on this site, sorry about that.

      Thanks Terri

      Thank you for your answer!
Ok I understand about the photo ….

We did have unprotected sex in 3 ocations before she was diagnosed with HSV2 and started using condoms every time after that..

The last time we had unprotected sex was 2 months ago a few days before her first out brake wich I know has a higher risk..unfortunately she was unaware of her status.

Sorry English is not my first lenguage, Regarding the scab, there was never blod or dried blood, if that is the main definition of a scab. Maybe dried serum.

When I say scab I mean more like the skinn healing itself it had a round hard surfised smaller than a grain of rice.. It will also disapear after I shower and kind of appear again.. Becoming smaller and smaller eventually falling off on the 4 th day…

      I don’t know if this changes anything…

Can a herpes fissure or cuts be painless and also not itch or burn?

Is it likely for a first non primary hsv 2 outbrake resolves in only 3 to 4 days?

Do you still think 70 % chances of being something else than HSV?

      Thanks again!!!

I don’t think we are describing scabbing in the same way and I appreciate your clarification. It is not likely for an HSV lesion with first infection to heal that quickly, no.

How was your partner diagnosed with herpes, exactly?

My opinion about the chances that this is herpes are exactly the same.
