Hello! 35f who has had ghsv1 since about 2010. I very rarely get outbreaks. They are few are far between. I happen to have had an outbreak about a week ago. While using the restroom my hand came in contact with the sores. I then promptly washed my hands. After without thinking I used the same hand to adjust my contact lens in my eye. Is there a possibility that I could have spread the virus to my eye? That was about ten days ago and now I feel like there is an irritated spot on my eyelid. No visible redness or pain but just feels like there is something there. Should I be concerned about a new infection there?
If you washed your hands after touching a sore, that’s all you need. The function of soap is to destroy lipids. There is a lipid layer surrounding the herpes virus and so soap and water destroy the virus. I don’t think you transferred herpes to your eye but if you become more symptomatic, you could have a professional evaluate your eye. It is also highly unlikely that if you have herpes in one location, you would get it in a new location on your body
