M/20. On 12/01/2022, I had my first sexual encounter, and unfortunately, it was a terrible one. I was sexually assaulted by a girl I thought I could trust. Over the past 5-6 months, I’ve been worried every single day about being hsv 1 or 2 postive, even though I’ve tested negative 3-4 times now and have been examined all of those times, with the doctors telling me they don’t see anything to be concerned about. I tested at the 3rd, 12th, and 17th week and all came back negative for both HSV1 and 2 but I’ve seen some cases take up to 6 months or a year to show up on the blood tests so now that has me very worried. Keep in mind, as far as lesions and cold sores are concerned, I’ve had none whatsoever. I have had and continue to deal with occasional mild gentile irritation and itching but it’s not all the time. I know this condition can be dormat for sometime too so I just want to know if I’m in the clear, it’s been 6 months and I still can’t even move on from the incident, it’s taken a big toll on my life. Thank you Terri, hopefully I don’t sound crazy in this text, I feel like I am going crazy worrying about this though.
You are certainly not the only person who has felt these exact same emotions. I think you should consider getting the herpes western blot. It is the gold standard for herpes testing and I think it would help you put your mind at rest.
Also, have you asked the girl is she’s been tested or would agree to be tested herself?
Terri
I have not been in touch with the girl ever since, nor do I plan too. Do you recommend taking the western blot test even though I’ve tested negative after 16-17 weeks with <0.90 igg or do you suggest moving on? I do want to be 100% sure but I think I’ve seen your posts on here say after 16 weeks the tests are 96-98% accurate on hsv 2? Correct me if I’m wrong.
I don’t believe you’ve seen that 16 week thing on this site, at least not recently. UW moved to 12 weeks for greatest accuracy years ago. Maybe you aren’t talking about the blot in that statement.
The IgG test misses 30% of HSV 1 and 8% of HSV 2 compared to the blot.
If that statistic is what concerns you, you could do the western blot for greater certainty.
